A Comprehensive Review Acer Aspire Nitro 7

Acer has been known for producing some of the best gaming laptops. The Predator series is quite popular among the gaming community. So, can Acer Aspire Nitro 7 get itself a place in the Acer’s best gaming laptops list?

Our Team reviewed the laptop and has some strong opinions to share with you. We used it as both a gamer and a general user would use it. And now, we are going to provide you with a comprehensive review of Acer Aspire Nitro 7.

General Specifications of Acer Aspire Nitro 7:

Acer Aspire Nitro 7 has a gaming laptop look. There’s no doubt about it. The red backlit keyboard and the brushed metal back. It got us really intrigued on the first look. This laptop has several variants. Each variant has different specifications.

However, the model that we reviewed had the following specifications:

Processor2.6 GHz Intel Core i7-9750H
RAM16GB
Storage512 GB
Display Size and resolution15.6 inches, 1920 X 1080p
Refresh Rate144 Hz
GraphicsNVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650, 4GB
Weight and Dimensions5.5lbs, 0.9 X 14.3 X 10.2 inches

So, these are the general specifications of the Acer Aspire Nitro 7.

Let’s start the review, now.

Design Review:

The design, as we have discussed earlier, is perfect for a gaming laptop. Its touchpad is placed a little left side from the center. Gamers can understand the reason. It is convenient for them since they usually game using the keys W, A, S, and D.

We’re not saying that all of you are going to use the touchpad in gaming, but having it closer to these keys gives you an edge in gaming.

The keyboard has a red backlight as compared to the Predator series (which has blue.) The whole body is made of black aluminum. This makes it compact and durable.

You get the following ports on this laptop:

  • 3 x USB 3.1
  • 2 x Type A
  • 1 x Type – C
  • 1 x HDMI
  • 1 x USB 2.0
  • 1 x headphone jack

It really isn’t shy about providing connectivity ports. Let’s move on to the display now.

Display Review:

It’s not normal for budget laptops to provide the kind of display that Acer Aspire Nitro 7 does. Some experts even think that Acer focused more on the display than it did on the internal specifications.

And we think they’re right. A 15.6-inch HD screen with a 144 Hz refresh rate is a pretty good deal. The color contrast is top-notch and the wide viewing angles are also good.

However, there is one technicality to keep in mind while discussing the display of this laptop.

GeForce GTX 1650 does not produce a frame rate of 144. The display is capable of showing more frames per second than the graphics card can produce.

However, enjoying multimedia on this laptop would be nice.

Performance Review:

Now let’s discuss what most of you guys are here for – the performance review. One of the things that impressed us the most was this laptop’s storage. Acer has been really generous about this.

It provides you with 3 storage slots. This means you can upgrade the storage whenever you want to. Our model contained 512GB of storage which is more than enough for basic usage.

Another factor that this laptop outperforms is its multitasking ability. It’s literally seamless. It’s all possible due to its 16GB RAM.

The graphics card could have been a little better than the GeForce GTX 1650. But it still provides good performance in many A-level games. This 4GB card when combined with the i7 processor gives a smooth gaming experience.

We wouldn’t recommend this laptop for people who want to have the top experience in gaming. Its graphics card isn’t going to get you this. If you want to buy it to play above-average games while having the facility of portability, go for it.

One perk you get using this laptop while gaming is its exceptional cooling ability. It has two cooling fans that push out the heat quietly. The heating depends on the usage. The more load you put on the laptop, the hotter it will get.

Battery Review:

Since the laptop has a good cooling system, the battery lasts a little longer than other competitive machines including MSI GS56 Stealth. During our review, where we played some videos at 70% brightness, the battery lasted for 8.4 hours.

If you game on the laptop unplugged, the battery will drain faster. But it might still perform decently.

Just like the heating, the battery’s lasting time also depends on the usage. We are satisfied with its battery timing. However, we recommend getting deeper insights about the battery before you decide to buy it.

So, this is our review of Acer Aspire Nitro 7.

Pros and Cons of Acer Aspire Nitro 7:

Pros:

  • Good storage
  • Aesthetic design
  • Decent cooling system
  • 144Hz refresh rate

Cons:

  • Mid-range graphics card
  • Heavy

Now, we are going to discuss some alternative machines that you can try out in its place.

Alternative Laptops for Acer Aspire Nitro 7:

Here are the alternatives:

1.      Clevo NH70:

Clevo NH70 is a decent laptop that you can use as an alternative to the Aspire Nitro 7. It provides similar specifications. An i7 processor and GeForce GTX 1650. However, the RAM in the basic unit is lower, but it will still work for multitasking and gaming.

One better thing about this laptop is its display. It has a 17.3-inch screen which is larger than the Aspire Nitro 7.

2.      Acer Nitro 5:

Well, considering sticking with the Acer company? Acer Nitro 5 has got your back. It gives you a 9th gen i5 processor. It has the same screen size and graphics card as Aspire Nitro 7. The only thing that you will have to compromise on is its lower processor.

3.      Clevo PA71:

Another Clevo laptop that you can try in place of the Acer Aspire Nitro 7 is the Clevo PA71. This machine provides you with some really good specifications. You get a GeForce GTX 1070 with 32GB of RAM in it.
